Diamond Care Tips from Laser/Maintenance
Your diamond is an investment, and you should treat it like one. It is important to routinely care for your diamond. You should bring your diamond ring, earrings, necklace, etc to a jewelry professional at least once a year for a cleaning and a check up to ensure that your setting is not loose. A loose diamond setting can result in the chipping of your diamond, or even loss of the diamond if it falls out of the setting. A jewelry professional will detect any problems before they happen. When cleaning your diamond at home there are some cleaning agents you can purchase at your jeweler, however a solution of a mild liquid soap and warm water work just as well. Gently apply the solution to the diamond with a cotton swab or a soft bristle toothbrush. In fact this is how we clean diamonds at AGS Laboratories diamond lab.
If your diamond has a laser inscription take special care when handling and caring for it. Preservation of the inscription is of the utmost importance, so proper handling techniques should be followed. Avoid such procedures as (cyanide) bombing exceeding five percent, stripping, or polishing with a harsh brush embedded with a condensed cell compound, since these methods will wear away the embedded graphite. Instead, try alternative methods to avoid damage or removal of your inscription: steam cleaning, mild pickling, polishing with a fine brush, and ultrasonic cleaning.
